RAPID 2013 Opening Reception at the Warhol Museum
Monday, June 10, 2013
5:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Sponsored by Materialise
Cost: $60 (Pre-registration required)
The Warhol Museum is approximately 1/2 mile (10-minute walk) from the convention center. Transportation will only be provided in the event of inclement weather.
Murray Moss, Curator and Creative Director of Moss Bureau, and Materialise, will present "The Factory 2.0", an installation at the Warhol Museum in Pittsburg, as the Opening Night Reception for RAPID 2013 attendees.
The installation will illuminate the RAPIDly evolving relationship between Art and Additive Manufacturing, focusing on innovations which are changing how Art is conceived and made, particularly through the use of Materialise's proprietary Mammoth Stereolithography technology, which is able to realize previously unrealizable mammoth works of art.
The Main Gallery installation will invite interaction with the guests, and imagine an intersection of Andy Warhol's now-iconic innovations in “Factory Art” with today's new possibilities. Two highly exaggerated, mammoth interpretations of Warhol's Fright Wigs, placed, ceremoniously, opposite each other, in the temple-like Gallery, will be positioned so that guests can stand beneath them and appear to be “wearing” the wigs, as Warhol did in his own self-portrait.
In the museum's famous Time Line Gallery, renowned British milliner Stephen Jones has been commissioned to create a monumental work, also addressing both Warhol and Additive Manufacturing.
Also at this reception, Materialise will announce the winner of the Andy Warhol Challenge, a competition sponsored by i.materialise that encourages you to design what you think Andy Warhol would have produced with 3D printing technology if he were alive today.
Hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine will be served throughout the evening, sponsored by Materialise.
Space is limited for this reception so register early.
