Technical Paper – deadline April 15
Sharing your experience and insights in a written technical paper helps archive manufacturing knowledge for use by practitioners and researchers. The SME archive contains more than 18,000 fully searchable research and case-study papers, which are available as free downloads to SME members and are distributed worldwide through databases and content licenses.
Authoring a written technical paper is a personal point of pride and gains recognition for your organization's technology advancements. Five (5) certification credits are available for authoring a published technical paper, with three (3) additional certification credits given for presenting a technical paper.
While a formal technical paper is not a requirement of your participation, it is a great way to gain recognition in the industry.

Dick Aubin Distinguished Paper Award – deadline April 15
All technical papers received by the April 15 deadline will be considered for the Dick Aubin Distinguished Paper Award
. This award seeks to recognize those who present a technical paper that features a successful and innovative application of RP technology in manufacturing. The winning paper will be selected based on 1) Technical merit, 2) Impact on the RP industry, and 3) Overall relevance and paper quality. To qualify for consideration your paper must be received by April 15
(abstracts with outlines or presentation notes do not qualify).
A review committee comprised of members of the RTAM Community will determine the award winner. Only papers accepted for presentation at SME's RAPID Conference & Exposition, with a completed/signed reprint form, will be considered for the award. PowerPoint presentations are not eligible.
The Dick Aubin Award consists of:
- A $1,000 check to principal author
- A personalized recognition award to principal author of winning paper
- Paper certificates to coauthors of winning paper
- Recognition letter to employer of principal author
- Recognition letter to newspaper/technical publication designated by principal author
- Press release announcing award recipient
- Award summary article posted on various RTAM Web pages (with photo of winner)
- Paper disseminated through SME's tech paper database
Your Presentation – Due May 20
As a selected speaker, you have agreed to provide SME with a copy of your presentation for inclusion in the event proceedings. Your presentation is due May 20
. Again this year, we are using Conference Harvester™ for presentation submission and other tasks regarding your participation. You are already registered in the system and a separate email will be sent with details on completing your tasks.
We will provide laptops on-site for your use. Bring your presentation with you, including all videos, etc., on a jump drive. When you check-in in the speaker ready room, your presentation will be pre-loaded before your session begins. All speakers will have internet access during their presentation.
All of the laptops that we provide will be loaded with Windows XP, Office 2007, and have all other standard Microsoft programs present as well. Anyone using a PowerPoint presentation with videos, who is comfortable imbedding that video in their presentation, should do so. The most important part is that the separate video file be present either way. Whether a video is imbedded or running separate, the original video files need to be provided. We will provide QuickTime and Windows Media Player for running videos. If you use a Mac vs. PC, make sure to provide Microsoft Office compatible presentations.
If you have any questions regarding your presentation, please contact Annemarie Kalergis at firstname.lastname@example.org.
